French Onion Soup

4 servings

 

  • 3 cups sliced onions
  • 1 tablespoon margarine or butter,
       plus 1 TBS vegetable broth
  • 2 12 oz. cans canned condensed beef broth
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 slices French bread, Toasted
  •    freshly grated parmesan cheese,
       (about 1 to 2 TBS each bowl)

In covered saucepan, cook onions in margarine over low heat for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add broth, water and worcestershire; heat to boiling. Reduce heat; cover and simmer about 30 minutes.

Place ½ slice of toasted bread in each bowl; pour hot soup over bread and sprinkle with parmesan cheese
